Your land really is yours
Claim a plot and nobody else can build on it, open a chest on it, or take it from you. That is not a rule somebody has to enforce after the fact - the server refuses the block placement. Chests lock themselves the moment you put one down.
Griefing is a bug, not a punishment
Creepers, endermen and zombies cannot damage claimed land or the streets between it. Explosions stop at the boundary. So the worst a bad day can cost you is the walk home, and staff spend their time building instead of rolling back other people’s messes.
Family-friendly, and meant
Everyone is approved by hand before they get in - there is no open door. Chat is watched, names are real names, and the city is built to be somewhere you would happily leave a ten-year-old to potter about for an hour.
The city elects its own government
Wards elect a mayor every 28 days, and the whole city elects a President. Your vote is weighted by the land you hold, so the people running a ward are the people who live in it. Mayors appoint architects, name public buildings and spend the ward’s land. It is genuinely a bit silly and people take it completely seriously.
Java and Bedrock, including consoles
Phone, tablet, Windows, Switch, PlayStation, Xbox and Java all play together in the same world. Consoles cannot type a server address, so on Xbox, PlayStation or Switch you add MinecraftCityMC as a friend on Xbox and join Minecraft City from the Friends tab.
The dangerous part is somewhere else
The Wilds is a separate world with its own monsters, its own weather and a gate you choose to walk through. The city stays a place to build; the fight is opt-in.
Things to do that are not just mining
A bank, a market, rideable Portkey rails between your plot and anywhere, jetpack boots you buy fuel for, launch pads, a map table in the Town Hall that redraws itself, and a coin economy that pays you for settling rather than for grinding.
